Wegovy is Novo Nordisk's brand of semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist sold as a once-weekly injectable pen and a once-daily tablet. It's FDA-approved for chronic weight management, for reducing cardiovascular risk in adults with established heart disease, and, following a 2026 approval, for treating MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis) with liver fibrosis. Pokii is a GLP-1 shot tracker for iPhone and iPad that includes both Wegovy and Wegovy Pill as built-in medications, letting people on either formulation log doses, track injection sites, set weekly shot reminders, and view a projected medication level chart.
What Wegovy is approved to treat
As of July 2026, Wegovy carries three FDA-approved indications. The original and best-known use is chronic weight management, for adults with obesity, or adults who are overweight with at least one weight-related medical condition, used together with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. The pen is also approved for adolescents 12 and older; the tablet isn't established as safe or effective for anyone under 18.
Wegovy is also approved to reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events, meaning cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack, or non-fatal stroke, in adults with established cardiovascular disease and either obesity or overweight. The newest addition is a MASH indication: Wegovy injection is approved to treat adults with MASH who have moderate to advanced liver fibrosis but not cirrhosis, alongside diet and activity changes, based on improvement of MASH and liver fibrosis with a confirmatory study still ongoing, per Novo Nordisk's MASH site. Wegovy carries a boxed warning about thyroid C-cell tumors seen in rodent studies and is contraindicated with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2.
Two formulations are available: the FlexTouch injectable pen and a 25 mg maintenance-strength oral tablet. In March 2026, the FDA approved a higher-strength pen, Wegovy HD at 7.2 mg, triple the previous 2.4 mg ceiling, for adults who need more weight loss than the 2.4 mg dose provided. Whether Wegovy HD also carries a cardiovascular or MASH indication, separate from weight management, hasn't been clearly confirmed in Novo Nordisk's public materials as of this writing.
Dosing schedule and device details, as labeled
The Wegovy injection label describes a standard dose-escalation schedule meant to limit gastrointestinal side effects: a starting dose of 0.25 mg once weekly, stepping up roughly every four weeks through 0.5 mg, 1 mg, 1.7 mg, and 2.4 mg. The recommended maintenance dose depends on indication: 1.7 mg or 2.4 mg for cardiovascular risk reduction, and for weight management, 1.7 mg, 2.4 mg, or the newer 7.2 mg Wegovy HD dose when additional weight reduction is clinically indicated, available after at least four weeks at 2.4 mg. If a step isn't tolerated, manufacturer materials describe delaying the next increase by about four weeks. The injection is a once-weekly subcutaneous shot into the upper arm, abdomen, or thigh, given any time of day, with or without food, with sites rotated between doses. Per manufacturer guidance, a missed dose can be taken as soon as possible if the next scheduled dose is more than two days away; otherwise it's skipped and the regular schedule resumes, and missing two or more consecutive doses may call for restarting the escalation schedule.
The oral tablet follows a separate schedule: a 1.5 mg once-daily starting dose, escalating approximately every 30 days up to a 25 mg once-daily maintenance dose, per NovoMEDLINK's dosing page. Secondary sources describe intermediate tablet steps around 4 mg and 9 mg, but those exact values weren't confirmed on a primary Novo Nordisk page, so they're noted here for context rather than settled fact. It's taken once daily on an empty stomach with no more than 4 ounces of plain water, followed by at least 30 minutes with no food, drink, or other oral medication.
The injectable pen is a prefilled, single-use FlexTouch pen with a hidden needle needing no priming or assembly, available in six color-coded strengths from 0.25 mg up to the 7.2 mg Wegovy HD dose. Pens are stored refrigerated at 36–46°F, or at room temperature up to 86°F for up to 28 days, and shouldn't be frozen or shared with another person. Per NovoMEDLINK, switching from pen to pill starts the 25 mg tablet seven days after the last 2.4 mg injection; switching from pill to pen starts the 2.4 mg pen the day after the last tablet dose.
Side effects and what tracking them can show
Per Wegovy's current Important Safety Information, the most commonly reported side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, headache, fatigue, upset stomach, dizziness, bloating, belching, gas, heartburn, and gastroenteritis-type symptoms, along with low blood sugar in people who also have type 2 diabetes. Hair loss and changes in skin sensation are listed on the weight-management and cardiovascular pages, while runny nose and sore throat appear on the MASH page. Phase III data cited in press coverage of the 7.2 mg Wegovy HD dose reported altered skin sensation in about 22 percent of participants, versus about 6 percent at 2.4 mg. Serious risks in the label include thyroid C-cell tumors, pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, hypoglycemia, dehydration and kidney problems from fluid loss, serious allergic reactions, vision changes in people with type 2 diabetes, increased heart rate, aspiration risk during anesthesia, and, on the MASH page, depression or suicidal thoughts.
Because side effects like nausea or fatigue often cluster around dose changes rather than showing up randomly, Pokii's daily check-in lets someone log side effects with an intensity per effect, alongside appetite, mood, and notes, with relative-to-last hints for spotting patterns. The side effect list is customizable, so only the effects worth tracking show up in the daily check-in. Because that logging is timestamped, it lines up with shot history, so a check-in a few days after a dose increase sits next to that dose's entry on the same timeline, rather than as a disconnected note.
Pokii's projected medication level chart adds another layer of context. It's an educational pharmacokinetic model, not a lab result, but it plots where a person's estimated Wegovy level sits between doses. Viewed next to logged side effects and check-ins, it can help make sense of whether a symptom lines up with a recent dose increase, a peak in projected level, or the tail end of a weekly cycle before the next shot. That context is descriptive, not diagnostic; Pokii doesn't interpret the chart as a medical explanation for any particular symptom.
What Pokii tracks for Wegovy specifically
Wegovy and Wegovy Pill are both listed among Pokii's built-in medications, alongside other branded and compound GLP-1 and GIP entries such as Zepbound, Ozempic, Mounjaro, and Semaglutide (Compound), so both formulations are ready to use without adding a custom medication. Because Wegovy, Ozempic, and Rybelsus all share the semaglutide compound, Pokii's projected level chart includes a Per Compound display mode that groups them by shared molecule, alongside Combined and Per Medication modes.
For the injectable pen, logging a Wegovy shot includes the injection site body map, with front and back views, rotation settings, and a suggested next site, plus an optional pain slider. Logging Wegovy Pill instead skips those injection-specific fields, since there's no injection or needle involved.
